Dr. Kate Russell
Dr. Kate Russell was introduced to chiropractic at 25 after a leg muscle tear and sensory loss injury. At the time, she was a stagehand electrician and had only experienced western medicine being from a family of nurses. Despite muscle function recovery with traditional medicine and physical therapy, she struggled with sensory loss for an additional 10 months after the injury. She finally decided to try something different and was introduced to chiropractic by a family friend. It only took one adjustment to start bringing the sensations of her leg back. After fully recovering with just two adjustments, reading into how this practice works, and seeing an entirely new perspective on health, she applied to chiropractic school. Since then she has made it her mission to provide education and more conservative options of healthcare before people are directed to drugs or surgery. Dr. Kate comes from a western medicine family background and firmly believes there is a time and place for such care, but wishes people were more aware and willing to explore less invasive, lower risk, and more conservative options first.
Chiropractic is known for being the practice and alignment of the spine, but because of Dr. Kate’s introduction was an injury in her leg, she has developed a philosophy that alignment doesn’t stop at the spine and has built a collection of techniques to address the body as a global entity where everything is interconnected and responsive to each other.
Her chiropractic techniques includes: Gentle adjustments with arthrostim and drop table - cracking (Diversified) is minimal but remains an option. Applied Kinesiology for extremity adjusting, Graston and cupping for scar tissue, BGI (Bio-Geometrical Integration) to address fascial distortion patterns, and Webster Technique for pregnant patients.
Dr. Kate is a 5th generation Bay Area local and loves the diversity in her city. She is passionate about equality for all and being a good ally to her community and welcomes anyone into her clinic. She has developed her skillset and experience from working initially with a QME chiropractor and helped him diagnose, document and treat patients who’s treatment were through worker’s compensation and personal injury. She then moved on and additionally worked in a pregnancy specialized low force clinic. (And mastered the craft of light touch!) In her experinece of seeing how powerful adjustments are for overall health, she has also found that long term wellness results are delivered by educating the patient. When coming into her office, be prepared to analyze and relearn even the most basic of daily habits - like breathing, sitting, standing and any other particular motion a patient does often. By addressing the habits that dysregulate us or slowly compound into pain patterns and then combining that with the power of alignment, Dr. Kate is able to support any individual who comes into her clinic by guiding them on becoming the best functional and mechanical person they can be.
